Having a house that has a garage included can be an amazing luxury. You don’t have to deal with the worry of leaving your car windows down during a rainstorm or sticking your hand in bird poop first thing in the morning. But when your garage door is broken or just suddenly just stops working altogether, it can be a hassle to figure out the problem and get it fixed. So, to help you out and to try and make things easier for you, here is a list of some of the most common reasons why garage doors stop opening or closing fully or at all.
Torsion Springs
First on the list – maybe your garage door torsion springs are stuck, jammed, rusted, or broken. If this is the case, you will have heard a giant boom sound coming from your garage. If you have a broken torsion spring in your garage door, do not try to open it yourself. It can be extremely dangerous so you should definitely hire a professional to take a look at it instead so that way no one gets hurt.
Cables
Your cables inside could have come undone or popped off altogether. It’s not uncommon for certain cables to disconnect from others in things like this. If you have a cable that has snapped or come undone, call a professional for commercial door repairs as it has the ability to harm your vehicle or people.
Transmission batteries
Another reason could be because your transmission batteries are dead. If your garage doesn’t have the power coming from the transmission batteries then it can’t work or function properly. Try checking to make sure that your batteries aren’t dead and if they are still working fine then try some of the other things on this list.
Photo Eye
Your photo eye could be out of alignment or blocked. The photo eye is what is used to tell if someone or something is blocking the door from opening or shutting. If something is blocking the sight of your photo eye then it automatically assumes that there is something in the way and it can’t open. Make sure nothing is blocking the sight of the photo eye.
Remote
Something else that could be messing with the system of your garage door could be your remote. If your remote is malfunctioning or broken then it can’t connect with the garage door and the door won’t know what it’s supposed to be doing. Try to test your remote, make sure it isn’t the issue before wasting your time and money with bigger options.
Off Track
The garage door could be off of it’s track, making it hard for the door to shut or open like it usually does and it will need to be realigned with it’s track in order to work again. If this is the issue you could fix it yourself without calling a professional since commercial door repairs can be costly, but just make sure you know how to do it, watch a video or read a step by step to make sure you don’t hurt yourself or make matters worse.
Something in the Path
One of the most common reasons why your garage door wouldn’t be working is that something is blocking it’s path. This doesn’t just mean that there is something on the ground that is in the way or something hanging that could be in the way. But a rock or some dirt could cause it
Between all of this, you are sure to find the reason why your door is not working and should be able to get it back and running from there.
