How do you sell your business for $100 million in two years?

It is the dream of every entrepreneur who has ever started a business. How do you build something in a short period of time that another company pays $100 million for?

On The Small Business Radio Show, Josh Landan began his career telling stories behind the lens – filming, directing, writing and producing movies and documentaries featuring some of the world’s best surfers, snowboarders and skateboarders. The passion to bring the stories of his sports friends to life led him to found Saint Archer Brewing Company. Josh sold this company to Coors for $100 million.

We first talked about how he went from surfers, skateboarders and snowboarders to beer to $100 million. Josh said, “I had an idea and I went for it. I thought it would be fun to do. I wasn’t afraid to jump in at the deep end and move my family to San Diego. If you push yourself in at the deep end “It’s amazing what you can learn and achieve. This is what most people don’t want to do.”

Josh raised $3 million for Saint Archer Brewing’s first business from family and friends. He adds: “They invested in me because my family was at stake. They believed in me. You don’t learn that at university.”

In the first week, Josh sold a lot of beer. “I come from skateboarding which is built on authenticity. I took it to a craft beer category sleeping at the wheel. What did the other brands actually stand for? When skateboarding, I knew everything about the brands. I brought this to beer and to the consumer.” Josh adds that he didn’t have the best beer, but he did have the best brand.

Two years later, Coors paid him $100 million for his craft beer brand.

Finally, Josh explains why he said no to Anhueser-Busch wanting to buy his current company, Ashland Hard Seltzer.
