|Job Description :||Assistant Content Strategist, VolunteerAbout the Pet Cancer FoundationThe Pet Cancer Foundation’s vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Estimates suggest that 12M dogs and cats are developing cancer every year, roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America.We need to do more for our furry friends, and we’re building a large team of distributed, animal-loving passionate volunteers to help them and their families. Our team requires skilled and talented writers to create relevant and engaging content that increases awareness, informs, and educates our online communities about pet cancer; that’s where and how you can help us.About the positionThe Online Communities Assistant Content Strategist (ACS) is responsible for executing the organization’s monthly content plan, which communicates the Pet Cancer Foundation story through compelling written and visual posts across our online communities. The ACS role is like that of an operations manager, whose role works with the entire team of writers, editors, and graphic designers, which create the posts we publish on our social networks. The incumbent will ensure regular team collaboration meetings occur, and that required tasks are completed on schedule by each team member throughout the content development process.The Assistant Strategist serves as a coach and mentor, to writers and editors, providing support, and answering questions or clarifying matters whenever needed. The Assistant Strategist will work with the Content Project Manager and Admin Support Specialist to track and report progress, along with any barriers or roadblocks that may negatively impact the team’s completion of the monthly content on schedule. When delays are identified, the ACS will evaluate and recommend solutions to remedy any shortcomings. The Assistant will report to the Content Strategist and backstops the senior role when required.Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupports the Strategist in building the strategic content plan for all online community channels to enable PCF’s short, medium, and long-term objectives of supporting pet owners by sharing credible health information and awareness initiatives that lead to the improved education pet owners on animal cancer-related topics.Leads the execution of the monthly strategic plan for each channel, working with the broader online communities team to ensure collaboration and proper delegation of assignments occur promptly and on schedule.Follows and tracks monthly assignments to the writing and art teams, ensuring full collaboration is utilized to maximize the visual graphics and written copy’s appeal and unification.Works with the Content Project Manager and Admin Support Specialist to track and report any barriers or roadblocks throughout the process, finding and recommending solutions when they occur.Continually assesses workflow to determine how and where improvements can be made in the content development process by increasing/decreasing time and resources and communicates findings regularly to Strategist.Organize and attend regular collaboration and coaching calls up and down the org chart to ensure all team members are better informed and understand the importance of their role in our efforts.Monitors post engagement as part of a continual evaluation of content and strategy to ensure “best practices,” as they pertain to the goal of being a leading cancer organization across our platforms and online communities.About You: You are experienced and skilled in leading teams of passionate creators. This is not a traditional marketing role; the Pet Cancer Foundation is an organization that provides education and awareness on a very sensitive topic, and you should possess an understanding of the effort required to generate content for a difficult subject like cancer. Your career in communications, public relations or journalism has provided the depth of character that comes from compassionately listening and telling the stories of others. You have:3-5 years’ experience in a similar role or capacity as an editor, assignment editorA diploma or bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.Excellent leadership, organizational and analytical skillsExcellent oral communication skillsExperience creating or editing digital content for target audiences across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedInSkilled at writing and copy editing, including writing content for sensitive and difficult topicsA professional portfolio of work that showcases the aboveExperience in Communications, public relations, or as a journalist.Experience in project management would be helpful but not mandatoryWhat we provide you withThis is an amazing role for anyone who is looking to either go into private or non-profit sectors.
