DEVAR manages centralized fundraising campaigns for the university, alumni and affiliate relations, and other opportunities of engagement for UC Davis retirees, friends, students and volunteer leaders. A cornerstone of the DEVAR communications and marketing team, this position assists with achieving the fundraising and alumni engagement goals of Development & Alumni Relations by creating digital marketing and communication materials that promote a compelling brand for the university, with an emphasis on helping to build UC Davis’ private philanthropic identity, one that will drive continuous, loyal support for the University now and in the coming years. Under general direction of the Assistant Director of Digital Marketing, the digital content strategist will be responsible for generating, editing and marketing web content, for the university’s alumni and giving websites, and other priority websites, as well as social media and mass email. This includes working with other UC Davis content providers from within DEVAR Marketing and Communications as well as other departments to obtain new content and develop innovative ways to distribute across all of DEVAR’s digital marketing channels. The digital content strategist will be responsible for managing, training, and supporting our website content management system. In addition, this position will help develop and launch new web properties, implement various social media strategies, support and maintain a family of websites, create mass email campaigns, and manage digital assets. The digital content strategist is also responsible for researching opportunities that will improve the user experience (UX) and search engine optimization (SEO) of content throughout the sites managed by DEVAR Marketing and Communications. The digital content strategist also acts as an advocate and model of best practices on communications strategy, content development, search engine optimization and Web content development. Experience developing assets for and a strong working knowledge and understanding of social media channels and their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) and how to best utilize each channel. Experience with web page layout/formatting languages utilizing HTML/CSS and working with content management systems. Experience planning and executing email marketing campaigns including list procurement, template creation and modification. Advanced skills and experience in creating professional quality content for web, email and social media; incorporating writing, graphics, photography and video. Experience managing a publication calendar/schedule for multiple digital communication channels; working with editors and writers, graphic designers, web editors, videographers, and photographers. Possesses a high level of interpersonal and communication skills including strong verbal, writing and editing skills. Preferred: Experience with display, search and social media advertising, including budget planning and management. Experience in data analysis, interpretation and reporting insights. Demonstrated knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices. Knowledge of UC Davis identity and style guidelines, as outlined in http://marketingtoolbox.ucdavis.edu. Knowledge and understanding of fundraising and experience in formulating results-oriented communication strategies for a variety of audiences, preferably in an academic setting.
