Summer School: up to 100 hours: July 5 – July 29 Reports to SLI/RLE Principal(s), Curriculum Coordinators Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience Posses a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate Demonstrated successful elementary teaching experience Be recognized as a collaborative instructional team member at home school Have demonstrated success sharing and consulting with colleagues in the areas of literacy/math and English language learners. Have working familiarity with the Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy/Mathematics Have knowledge of pedagogy and interventions for the striving reader Have demonstrated skillfulness collecting and analyzing district data for purposes of progress monitoring Have knowledge and technological skills specifically related to Google Docs, Keynote or Prezi (or other presentation software) Have in-depth knowledge of Michigan’s ELA standards progression in grades K-5 Have demonstrated skillfulness specifically with standards related to vocabulary and acquisition Have in-depth knowledge of Michigan’s K-5 Mathematics Standards progression involving both Content Standards and Standards of Mathematical Practice Have demonstrated skillfulness specifically with standards related to Number Sense, Place Value, Fractions, and Operations and Algebraic Thinking Have demonstrated success sharing and consulting with colleagues in the area of mathematics and EL Have knowledge of pedagogy and interventions for the struggling mathematician Proof of COVID vaccination required Essential Duties and Responsibilities Contribute to the development of the SLI ELA curriculum in collaboration with the SLI Principal, University Partnership Leaders, EL Teachers, and Curriculum Coordinator(s) Develop and facilitate professional development for SLI/RLE teachers prior to summer program Provide ongoing classroom support during the summer school experience Prepare and order summer school teaching materials with summer school principal and coordinators Participate in ongoing study groups throughout the spring in literacy sponsored by AAPS Organize and/or support partnership with reading support volunteers Provide weekly/biweekly group learning sessions between AAPS staff and UM-ELMAC Organize and collect pre-post data on ELA and Math students for program review and adjustments Contribute to the development of the SLI Mathematics curriculum in collaboration with the SLI Principal, University Partnership Leaders, and Curriculum Coordinators Participate in ongoing study groups related to the field of mathematics sponsored by AAPS Work collaboratively with other Curriculum Content Specialists Regular and reliable attendance Other duties as assigned Language Skills Read, write, and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing Mathematical Skills Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals Reasoning Ability Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations Other Skills & Abilities Work with parents and children of diverse cultural backgrounds Develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
