Job Description : Reporting to the New England Aquarium’s Associate Director, Editorial, the Senior Writer will be responsible for writing long and short copy for print publications, the website, digital media, email marketing, and development/fundraising communications. This content promotes the Aquarium’s ocean conservation mission and delivers compelling reasons to visit and support the Aquarium. New England Aquarium has implemented comprehensive safety protocols for employees and visitors to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure. As a member of our team, you will be provided with the training and resources needed to ensure a safe and rewarding experience. In addition, the Aquarium requires all staff to be vaccinated and boosted (when eligible) against COVID-19 unless a reasonable medical or religious accommodation is requested and approved. This is a full-time regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule will be Monday-Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm with the option for a hybrid schedule, working some days on-site and some days remotely. Remote days are only available for residents of MA, RI, NH, ME, and VT. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Interview Aquarium staff members to research and write long-form articles and short copy on multiple topics, as assigned by the Associate Director, Editorial. Write content for various outlets including web, e-newsletters, promotional emails, development/fundraising material, and assorted collateral materials. Develop strong collaborative partnerships throughout the organization to surface the best examples of the Aquarium both as a global leader in ocean conservation and a premier destination. Create content for social media and website. Ability to convey complex topics clearly. Work with stakeholders to ensure all material adheres to the highest standards. Supports the editorial team with other writing and editing duties. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Training and Experience Requires a bachelor’s degree; master’s preferred with a focus on marine science, environment/conservation field. Five years of experience writing and editing content for a scientific institution, university, media outlet, or comparable organization. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Candidates must have excellent written and oral communications skills as well as meticulous attention to detail. The position requires superior interpersonal, organization, time management and teamwork skills. Candidates must be able to partner with multiple stakeholders and internal clients, prioritize their work, and be passionate and knowledgeable about the Aquarium’s mission to protect the blue planet.
