Position Summary Through written and visual media, the Writer/Content Editor provides content that supports Sac State’s mission and presents University achievements in a way that enhances its standing and reputation in the communities it serves. Keeps Sac State web pages managed by University Communications updated and engaging. Informs the campus and associated communities of interest about important events, initiatives, and news through production and distribution of Briefing and Leader. Ensures University Communications’ ability to maintain editorial stylistic consistency. FLSA: Exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation under the Fair Labor Standards Act) CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,515 – $6,358 per month Hiring Range: $3,515 – $5,500 per month Salary Grade/Range: 2 Recruitment Type: Regular (probationary) Time Base: Full-Time Pay Plan: 12 month Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ability to work some evenings and/or weekends, occasionally at off-site locations, as needed. For more information, please visit: https://www.csus.edu/president/university-communications/ Minimum Qualifications Entry to the first level within this classification requires knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research. This background normally is obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and up to two years of related professional or technical experience. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles are essential to initial entry to this classification. Required Qualifications Education /Experience 1. Experience writing/editing for general publications/broadcast. 2. Experience editing/posting online content and working within web publishing platforms. 3. Experience writing and posting social media entries. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 4. Excellent communication and editorial skills, with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling and composition. 5. Ability to manage workflow and execute requirements of multiple projects. 6. Working knowledge and exhibited abilities relative to fundamentals of writing/editing and mass communication. 7. Ability to write news/feature stories and other communications as assigned. 8. Ability to shoot publication-level video. 9. Ability to use e-newsletter, and web publication tools and platforms. 10. Ability to assess web content for accuracy, timeliness and impact on target audiences, and to make recommendations relative to that content. 11. Ability to manage and execute multiple daily, weekly and long-term tasks. 12. Ability to be adaptable and flexible with changing priorities and deadlines. 13. Knowledge of Associated Press editorial style, and ability to update University editorial style guide. 14. Proficient with modern communications technology and platforms. 15. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and diverse constituents; demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence, diversity, and collaborative partnership.
